About the Department

The Obstetric & Gynaecological Nursing program equips students with the knowledge, principles, and professional skills required to care for mothers with pregnancy-related disorders and childbirth complications. This training prepares nurses to provide specialized care in hospitals, homes, and various healthcare settings.

Program Aim

The Obstetric & Gynaecological Nursing program aims to prepare students for responsibilities as registered midwives, educators, and administrators in maternal and newborn care.

Program Objectives

Upon completion of the OBG Nursing Program, students will be able to:

  • Describe the epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, and diagnostic assessment of obstetrical conditions.
  • Perform physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual assessments of antenatal, intranatal, and postnatal patients.
  • Demonstrate competence in caring for high-risk newborns.
  • Identify and manage obstetrical and neonatal emergencies following established protocols.
  • Implement infection control measures in obstetric and gynaecological settings.
  • Provide counseling and support to women and families.
  • Conduct research in obstetric and gynaecological nursing to improve patient care.
  • Function as an independent midwifery nurse practitioner, delivering specialized maternal healthcare.

This program ensures that nursing students are well-prepared to handle complex maternal and newborn health challenges while promoting safe and effective care practices.
